Our Lord ordained each of the Apostles to spread the Gospel and administer the sacraments.  The Apostles in turn consecrated bishops to do the same. The "Apostolic Succession" is the historic line of bishops that runs from Our Lord Jesus Christ to all validly consecrated bishops today.  This page lists the line of Apostolic Succession of the Right Reverend James Richard Judd, Secretary of the Heartland College of Bishops.

More than ninety percent of Roman Catholic and Old Catholic bishops active today trace their Episcopal lineage back to one bishop appointed in 1541, Scipione Rebiba.  From Cardinal Rebiba, the Apostolic Line certainly extends back to the inception of the See in Rome.

The records and documentation from Cardinal Rebiba, 1541 to the present, are available for study; however, many of the records and documentation for the early period, prior to 1541, cannot be found or are incomplete.  We therefore begin with Cardinal Scipione Rebiba.

Gerard Gull was the Old Catholic Bishop of Utrecht.  Arnold Harris Mathew, upon his consecration, became the Old Catholic Bishop for Great Britain and Ireland.  Perhaps the majority of Old Catholic bishops in the United States trace their Apostolic Succession to Arnold Harris Mathew and the Old Catholic Church of England.  Bishop James Ingall Wedgwood and Bishop Rudolph de Landas Berghes, both consecrated in the Arnold Harris Mathew Episcopal line, eventually found their way to the United States.  Bishop Wedgwood would lead the Liberal Catholic Church and Bishop Rudolph de Landas Berghes, the Old Roman Catholic Church.  Both jurisdictions are Old Catholic.  The Apostolic Succession of James Richard Judd proceeds from James Ingall Wedgwood and the Liberal Catholic Church in the United States and Canada.
